South Africa’s Kevin Anderson surprisingly beat 12th seeded Richard Gasquet in the second round of 2012 Paris Masters, winning in three sets 7-6 (5) 4-6 6-1.

This is a very bitter defeat for the Frenchman Gasquet, whose chances to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals have diminished after this loss. He needed to reach the semis for a chance to compete in London.

Elsewhere, Argentine Juan Monaco kept his hopes for London alive with a 7-6 (4) 6-2 victory over Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria. The 9th seeded Argentine will need to advance into the final here to get a chance to qualify for year ending championships. Monaco will meet Serb Janko Tipsarevic next, who dismissed Igor Sijsling with a 6-4 7-6 (0) scoreline.
