Roger Federer will take on Juan Martin Del Potro in the Basel final after both players won their respective matches in straight sets. Federer served 10 aces in a 7-5 6-4 victory over Paul-Henri Mathieu, dominating on serve and facing no break points in the whole match. Federer failed to break on his first break point opportunity at 3-3 but was successful second time round at 5-5, earning the right to serve out the set which he did so successfully.
Mathieu kept the score respectful and held Federer to just the single break in the second set too, getting broken at 2-2 to end the match as a contest. Despite the defeat, it has been an impressive week for the wildcard and he will be hoping to take his form into Paris where he also has a wildcard.
Meanwhile, Juan Martin Del Potro broke Richard Gasquet five times in a 6-2 6-2 victory. After dropping just two points in his first two service games, the second to 15 for a 2-1 lead, Gasquet fell apart and would drop serve twice in a row winning just one point in the two games as he lost the final five games of the set.
The second set began the same way, as Del Potro broke the Gasquet serve once more only to hand it back to love. He would break twice more and have break points in the other game in a performance where Gasquet could do very little on serve. Taking a 5-2 lead after getting a second break, Del Potro then served out the match to love to book his place in the final.
