Seventh-seeded Italian Sara Errani achieved her first victory at WTA Championships in Istanbul by dismissing ninth seed Sam Stosur in a three-setter. The match that was marked by a huge number of break point opportunities, started with two dropped serves, one on each side. The players remained on level terms until 3-3 when the Italian broke Stosur two times in a row to secure the first set triumph.
To some extent, the following set was a mirror image of the first with both players conceding an early break, yet this time it was Errani who gave away a pair of her serves later on. Stosur thus went two breaks clear by 5-1 and held her closing service game successfully to make it one set between the athletes.
After seeing the second set, who would have thought Errani would destroy the former number one Australian in the decider. The players were worlds apart in the crucial set with Stosur giving away all of her serves. Errani closed out the encounter by converting her seventh break ball (out of 18 in total) and claimed her first point at WTA Championships with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 final success after one hour and fifty-one minutes of tennis.
