Novak Djokovic needed two sets to defeat Tomas Berdych and advance into the 2012 Shanghai Masters final. The Serb won with a 6-3 6-4 scoreline after 1 hour and 25 minutes of play.
With this win, Novak improved his head to head record against Berdych to 10-1.
World no.2 Djokovic managed to break the Czech twice to race to a 5-1 lead in the first set. Despite Berdych clawing one break back and subsequently holding serve to set the score at 5-3, Djokovic seized his second chance to close out the set, taking a lead in the match.
The crucial moment of the second set came in the third game as Djokovic took Berdych’s serve once more to go 2-1 up. This proved to be sufficient for the Serb to sail to a straight sets victory, setting up a final encounter against his good friend Murray.
Murray overcame top seed Federer 6-4 6-4 to reach Sunday’s final.
