Serb Novak Djokovic put on a superb performance to beat Tommy Haas in straight sets 6-3 6-3 and advance into the Shanghai Masters 2012 semi-finals.
Djokovic, who has played some outstanding tennis this week so far, struck in the sixth game of the first to give himself a 4-2 lead. With no more breaks of serve, the Serbian player clinched the opener after 42 minutes of play.
The German didn’t seem to be too bothered after going down a set. He stepped up a notch, taking Djokovic’s serve in the second game of the second set to go 2-0 up. But as the great players always do, Novak picked himself up right away, putting the set back on track with a re-break. After a fairly sloppy three consecutive games from Haas, Djokovic got hold of a 5-2 lead. Despite not being able to serve out the match, he took the German’s serve in the following game and booked a semi-final place in Shanghai.
Djokovic will play Czech Berdych next, who eliminated Frenchman Tsonga in the previous semis, beating him 6-3 7-6 (4).
