Djokovic beats Lopez, reaches Shanghai Masters quarterfinals

Novak Djokovic defeated Feliciano Lopez to advance into the last 8 of the 2012 Shanghai Rolex Masters. After a straight sets 6-3 6-3 victory, he will play the winner of the match between Janko Tipsarevic and Tommy Haas next.

Djokovic was invincible on his serve throughout the whole match, not dropping more than two points on the serve ina any given game. One break of serve for the Serb was more than sufficient for hiw to wrap up the first set.

After taking Lopez’s serve in the third game of the second set and subsequently consolidating the break, he went 3-1 up. The Spaniard’s forehand misfired quite often in today’s match, not making it easy for him to challenge the in top form playing Djokovic. Lopez dropped his serve for the third time when serving to stay in the match at 3-5, with Djokovic advancing into the quarterfinals of this year’s tournament.

Also through to the last 8 is Czech Tomas Berdych, who eliminated American Sam Querrey after a three set battle, winning 6-2 6-7 (3) 6-4.
