Serena Williams secured herself a 2012 US Open semifinal spot with a straight sets 6-1  6-3  victory over former world no.1 Ana Ivanovic.

Williams, who is aiming to win her fourth US Open crown, has now lost only 4 games alltogether in her last two matches, having beaten Hlavackova 6-0  6-0 in the round before. The American breezed through the first set against Ivanovic, who couldn’t find any answers to Serena’s all around aggressive game. The Serb, who triumphed at the 2008 Roland Garros, managed to play a bit more tight second set against this year’s Wimbledon and Olympic champion Williams. However, it was far from being enough and after just 58 minutes of play, Serena booked a semifinal ticket, where she will face Italy’s Sara Errani.

Errani overcame fellow Roberta Vinci also in straight sets 6-2  6-4 and will be playing in her second ever Grand Slam semis. She has had a superb year so far, having reached the French Open final, where she lost to Sharapova in the end.

Serena leads the head to head against Errani with 3-0, but they haven’t played since 2009.
