See full match live commentary here: Serena Williams vs Sara Errani As It Happened

Three time US Open champion Serena Williams advanced into the final at Flushing Meadows after a more than convicing 6-1  6-2 victory over Italian Sara Errani in today’s semifinal.

The American dominated from the very beginning of the match, taking a quick 5-0 lead. It was only then that the Italian managed to hold serve to get on the board. However, Serena stormed to wrap up the set and this looked very much like a one player show.

Errani tried all she could to penetrate Williams’s defence, but the 2012 Wimbledon and Olympics winner didn’t seem too bothered as she kept on hitting winner after winner. Especially the Italian’s second serve was quite vulnerable, allowing Serena to step into the court and dictate the play most of the time. Two more breaks of serve were more than sufficient for the American to book her place in the Saturday’s final.

Williams will play Victoria Azarenka for this year’s title. The Belarusian defeated Maria Sharapova in today’s first semis, winning in three tough sets 3-6  6-2  6-4.
