Granollers/Lopez and Stepanek/Paes pairs eased into 2012 US Open men’s doubles semis in straight sets.
Sixth seeds Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez of Spain eliminated Austrian-Brazilian combination Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares. A late break in the first set and an early one in the set two were enough to see the Spaniards trough to the semifinals. Their opponents did not earn any break point opportunities during the match, but have made five double faults which might have also contributed to their 6-3, 6-4 loss.
Fifth-seeded Austrian-Indian pair Stepanek-Paes dominated in all of the crucial statistical elements in their match against unseeded Austrian Julian Knowle and Slovak Filip Polasek. The veteran favorites showed their firm intention to proceed into semis at the very beginning of both of the sets as they broke their younger rivals in the opening games. From then on it was a routine work for the 2012 Australian Open men’s doubles title holders. They won with 6-2, 6-4 after one hour and sixteen minutes of play.
