Defending champion Novak Djokovic reaches the 2012 US Open semifinal after overcoming Argentine Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets 6-2 7-6 (3) 6-4.
Del Potro had a very slow start into the match, conceding the first set in just 39 minutes as he dropped his serve twice.
However, the Argetine Olympic singles bronze medalist managed to shake off the loss of the first set as he took the Serb’s serve in the opening game of the second set. He had a massive opportunity to serve it out at 5-4, but failed to do so and a tiebreak was to decide the outcome of the set. Del Potro was the first one to take a mini break and go 2-0 up, just before giving away the advantage and handing Djokovic a two set lead.
A break in the first game of the third set secured the 2011 US Open champion the necessary lead and he never looked back as he set up a semifinal encounter against the Spaniard Ferrer, who eliminated Serb Tipsarevic in a five set drama earlier today.
