Both Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Kirilenko brushed away their 2012 New Haven quarterfinal opponents in two straight sets in and will meet in semis next.

Third seed Wozniacki beat recent Carlsbad winner Dominika Cibulkova in New Haven quarterfinal match. While Dane Wozniacki was hardly troubled at her serve, she converted practically all of her break balls. Sixth-seeded Slovak Cibulkova was obviously far from her best yesterday. She will especially not be proud of losing three consecutive second-set service games without even reaching a deuce. On the other hand, Wozniacki was not in a magnificent form this year and will thus be glad to have proceeded into semis with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Her next opponent on the way to New Haven title will be Olympic semifinalist Kirilenko.

Seventh seed Russian has also had a rather easy job against unseeded Belarus Olga Govortsova.  Govortsova had her serve broken already in the second game, then had a chance to break back, but was not successful. This lead to losing yet another serve and the first set went Kirilenko’s way after 35 minutes of play. While the second set lasted about a quarter of an hour longer, the outcome was similar: 82th-ranked Belarus gave away two of her serves and was eliminated from the tournament with an end score 6-1, 6-2.
