Top seed Radwanska had to stay very concentrated to proceed into Cincinnati quarterfinals. After a flawless twenty-three minutes long first set, the world no. 3 lost three service games in the second one to allow the 19-years old American prospect Sloane Stephens to equalize. Radwanska continued to play unconvincingly in the decider as she gave away two of her serves. Nonetheless, she broke the domestic player’s serve three times and wrapped up a two hours long match with a game to love: 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. In the quarters, she will play the winner of the match between Li Na and the Swedish qualifier Larsson.
Ninth seed and last year’s French Open winner Li did not have it easy against 22-years Romanian Sorana Cirstea in the second round of Cincinnati. In a very interesting first set, Cirstea was the first player to break serve, taking a 3-0, but her game collapsed after that as she lost the following six games to give the Chinese a one set lead. However, Cirstea managed to come up with her very best tennis once more in the second set, forcing a decider. Both players were a bit more consistant in the third set and only one break of serve in Li’s favour decided the outcome of the set and the match. Cirstea lost her serve in the fourth game and squandered a break ball in the last game of the match which thus went Li’s way: 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Her third round rival will be Swedish qualifier Larsson.
