Safarova and Wozniak advance easily, Petkovic out of 2012 US Open.

Lucie Safarova and Aleksandra Wozniak had no problems in first round of US Open, whereas Andrea Petkovic suffered a defeat against Romina Oprandi.

It is the second time Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak advanced into the second round of US Open. On the other hand, this was the first New York Grand Slam for 22-years Romanian Alexandra Cadantu, and it will not be a very memorable one. She was defeated in less than an hour and was served a bagel in the process. The result: 6-0, 6-2 in favor of Wozniak, who will face Lucie Safarova next.

Fifteenth-seeded Czech Safarova made no mistakes against young American Melanie Oudin. The Czech started furiously as she took Oudin’s serve to love and managed to protect the one break advantage until the end of the first set. Oudin apparently gave up the fight after losing opening game of the second set, too. It was thus a routine work for Safarova who did not allow her rival a single more game. End scoreline: 6-4, 6-0.

German hope Andrea Petkovic will be disappointed to be defeated in ther first round by Swiss Romina Oprandi. Last year’s quarterfinalist Petkovic opened the match with three lost service games. Consequently, the first set went Oprandi’s way. The second set was full of turnarounds, but Petkovic again sealed her fate by giving away three serves. Oprandi won with 6-2, 7-5 and will be playing Bartoli next.

Other results:

Lepchenko (USA) – Johansson (Fra) 6-3, 3-6, 7-5

Domingez Lino (Esp) – Karatantcheva (Kaz) 6-4, 6-1

Burdette (USA) – Bacsinszky (Sui) 6-4, 6-3
