Agnieszka Radwanska’s produces an outstanding comeback in second round of US Open, while Maria Kirilenko sees off Greta Arn in two rather easy sets.
33-years old Hungarian Arn was playing her first ever second round match at the US Open. Fourteenth seed Kirilenko proved to be too high a hurdle for World No. 121 Arn who did not have a single break point opportunity during the whole match. While Hungarian hit more winners (16-12), she conceded more than twice as many unforced errors as Kirilenko. 25-years old Russian converted three out of her seven break balls and booked her third round ticket with a 6-3, 6-2 two-set victory. She will try to reach fourth round by playing Hlavackova who eliminated Voskoboeva in three sets: 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-3.
Second seed Radwanska was a clear favorite against Carla Suarez Navarro, yet she had to put in a lot of effort to finish off unseeded Spaniard. Suarez Navarro took the first set and had one break advantage until 3-1 in the following set. From that point on Radwanska won eleven consecutive games, storming to take the match in great fashion at the end. One of the elements Radwanska dominated in was carrying out 21 successful attacks at net (Suarez Navarro 3). She also hit more winners and made less unforced errors than the Spaniard. End result: 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 for the Pole whose performance in second half of the match indicates she is a serious contender for 2012 US Open trophy.
Her next opponent will be 30th-seeded Jelena Jankovic who was successful against another Spanish player Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino. Jankovic won the match with 6-4, 6-2.
