The clash between fourth seed Italian Sara Errani and fifth-seeded French Marion Bartoli promised to be a tight encounter, but was rather one-sided in the end. Errani, who already won in Barcelona, Budapest, and Palermo this year, got off to a better start going 4-0 up in the first set, then lost two serves herself, but than achieved yet another break in an exciting last game of the set. The second set was far from convenient either. Bartoli found herself 0-4 behind once again, broke back once, but was nevertheless trailing throughout the whole set. Errani crowned her fine performance with a break to love. End result 6-4, 6-2
Recent Montreal winner Second seed Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic also advanced into semifinal after beating fellow Lucie Safarova in straight sets 6-3 6-3. When asked how it feels to play against another Czech player, she said: “From the beginning, of course, it’s weird with Lucie on the same court. Then when you are in the game, you don’t care about this. You just try to play your best.”
Kvitova leads 2-0 in the head to head against Errani, having won this year’s Fed Cup semis encounter against the Italian.
