Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov reached the third round of the Winston-Salem Open after dismissing Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei in straight sets 6-1  6-3.

Dolgopolov, who had a bye in round one, dominated in all departments and with 8 aces to his good, he set up an encounter against the winner of the match between the Argentine wild card holder David Nalbandian and Dutch Robin Haase. The Ukrainian, who is no.4 seed at this year’s tournament, went out to Haase in the QFs of last year’s tournament.

7th seeded Sam Querrey also advanced to the next round, beating Colombian Santiago Giraldo 6-3  6-2. The American, winner of one ATP title in 2012 (Los Angeles), will face Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in round three.

Lopez defeated American Donald Young in two straighforward sets 6-2  6-3 in 1 hour and 12 minutes. Despite Young earning himself 9 break point opportunities, he only managed to convert one.

Also through to the next round are Lukasz Kubot of Poland, who came back from a set down to defeat 8th seeded Frenchman Julien Benneteau 2-6  7-5  6-3 and no.13 seed Austrian Jurgen Melzer after eliminating American qualifier Michael McClune in a tough three set battle, winning 6-2  2-6  7-6 (10).
