Alexandr Dolgopolov of the Ukraine and second seed for the ATP Citi Open in Washington has marched through to the last eight of the hard court tournament with some ease. The Ukrainian saw of Italy’s Flavio Cipolla 6-1, 6-3 in the first round, before defeating Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo of Spain in round two 6-3, 6-2.

He now faces home favourite James Blake of the USA who knocked out fifth seed Pablo Andujar of Spain 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in round one and then overcame the Swiss qualifier Marco Chiudinelli 6-2, 6-4 in the second round.

Another seed to progress to the last eight was fourth seed Tommy Haas of Germany who overcame American qualifier Michael Russell 6-4, 6-2 in the first round and Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer 7-6, 7-6 in round two. Haas will now face fellow German Tobias Kamke in the last eight after he beat seventh seed Benoit Paire of France 6-3, 7-5 in his first game before defeating Australia’s Marinko Matosevic in the second round 3-6, 7-6, 6-3.
