The Australian player, Casey Dellacqua, who is number 106 on the WTA’s rankings list and who caused quite a sensation at the Texas Tennis Open being played in Dallas this week when she ousted the tournament’s number four seed, the hard hitting Belgian Yanina Wickmayer (ranked 28), 6-4 6-4, had yet another good win on Wednesday in the quarter finals when she took out the much improved Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada 6-4 6-4 in just over an hour’s play, battling back in the second set from a 0-3 deficit. Her match in the semis – her first ever semi final on the WTA tour – will be against Jelena Jankovic.

In another third round match Jelena Jankovic, the former world number one who has been struggling with her game of late and is now ranked a lowly 34 (which means she will not be seeded at the US Open), faced off against the Romanian player, Sorana Cirstea and had a very easy win, 6-2 6-1, in exactly one hour on court. The second seed in this tournament, Jankovic had only won one game out of nine coming into this event and her results here bode well for her to go some way into the draw in New York next week.
