6th seeded Tomas Berdych and the no.27 seed Sam Querrey both advanced into the third round of the 2012 US Open, where they will face each other.

The Czech Berdych overcame Jurgen Zopp of Estonia in straight sets 6-1  6-4  6-2 after hitting 25 winners, 13 aces and breaking his opponent 6 times on his way to victory. On the other hand, Zopp couldn’t quite come to terms with his serve (overall 1st serve percentage 49%), managing to win only 63% of the points after his first serve found it’s mark.

Sam Querrey also eased into the next round after eliminating Spaniard Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-3  6-4  6-3. The American’s biggest weapon proved to be his serve as he fired 19 aces throughout the match, not allowing his opponent a single break point opportunity. On the other hand, he took the Spaniard’s serve four times to cruise to a comfortable victory.

Berdych leads the head to head against Querrey with 2-1, having beaten the American in the last week’s Winston-Salem semis in straight sets 6-4  6-3.

Also through to the next round is 23rd seed Spaniard Fernando Verdasco after defeating fellow Albert Ramos 7-6 (4)  5-7  7-6 (5)  6-4 and no.15 seed Canadian Milos Raonic after a staight forward victory over Frenchman Paul Henri Mathieu, prevailing in straight sets 7-5  6-4  7-6 (4).
