Ricardas Berankis’ season looks to be on the mend as he recorded yet another victory in LA. The 22 year old Lithuanian is still yet to drop a set in the tournament and comfortably saw off  Nicolas Mahut, defeating the fourth seed 6-4 6-4.

Looking to have shaken off the chronic groin injury that overshadowed the first half of his season, Berankis’ impressive victory over the fancied French player sets him up for a semi final encounter with Australia’s Marinko Matosevic.

Seeded sixth, Matosevic cantered to a comfortable 6-2 6-3 victory over American Michael Russell when the two players met in their quarter final. Russell – fresh from defeating pre-tournament favourite Benoit Paire in the second round – was unable to find his stride against the Australian, eventually bowing out with a whimper.

Matosevic will now face Berankis for a place in the final. Once there, the winner will face another American – either second seed Sam Querrey or Rajeev Ram who go head to head in the evening’s other semi final.
