Third seed Leonardo Mayer and Rajeev Ram, who eliminated Brian Baker in the first round, secured their quarterfinal spots after easy second round victories on 2012 Farmers Classic.

The contest between Argentine Mayer and Italian Cipolla was a one-way traffic. Cipolla lost his serve after a long initial game of the match, and could not trouble Mayer afterwards. The Argentine served his rival a bagel as the first set finished with 6-0. The second set lasted only four games, all of them won by Mayer. At this point the Italian retired from the match due to neck injury. The result: 6-0, 4-0 (retired).

American Rajeev Ram kept up his recent good form against the Chilean Paul Capdeville, who could not really stamp his mark on the match that lasted only one hour and five minutes. The players were tied until 3-3 in the first set when Ram stepped it upped a notch; four converted break points later Capdeville was knocked out of the tournament with the end score 3-6, 1-6.

Ram, who is meeting Mayer in the quarterfinals, will thus be looking to upset one more seeded player in Los Angeles.
