The second round of play at the Baku Cap tournament in Azerbaijan’s capital city concluded today without any of the drama which marked the second day of first round matches yesterday. Today, Alexandra Panova of Russia, the second seed, battled for almost three hours to defeat Sandra Zaniewski of Poland 4-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-3, while third seeded Mandy Minella of Luxembourg defeated Marta Domachowska of Poland 6-4 7-5 in a close match which lasted almost two hours. Fifth seed Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia had an easier time against Valeria Solovieva of Russia, winning 6-2 6-3 in just under one and a half hours; and Nina Bratchikova of Russia was leading 6-0 when her opponent, Estrella Cabeza Candela of Spain was forced to retire.

In doubles play, the top seeded pair of Nina Bratchikova and Alexandra Panova is through to the semis after scoring a double bagel against Caroline Garcia of France and Anna Smolina of Russia.
