This matchup is being billed as Murray’s best chance to reach his first Wimbledon final, and with this being his fourth consecutive appearance in the semi finals, there is a just argument that this represents his best opportunity yet.
But while there is a collective sigh of relief from all Murray fans that it is the French fifth seed and not world number two and two time Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal on the other side of the net, there are danger signs for the Briton. Not least of these is the way that Tsonga dispatched Roger Federer from last year’s quarter final from a two set deficit shows what a competitor he is.
However all things considered, with the pair’s head-to-head record favouring Murray at 5-1 including 2-0 on grass, the partisan crowd, and Murray’s recognition that there will never be a better time than this to be the first British man to reach the Wimbledon final since 1938.
Prediction: Murray in 4 sets.
