Defending champion Novak Djokovic set up a semifinal encounter against Swiss Federer after defeating Florian Mayer of Germany 6-4 6-1 6-4 in today’s Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Djokovic is bidding to become the first player to retain his Wimbledon title since Federer managed to do it in 2007.

With this victory over the German, he reached his 9th consecutive Grand Slam semifinal, just one short of the legends Ivan Lendl and Rod Laver.

The Serbian ironman hit an unbelievable 50 winners and converted 5 out of 9 break points to sail to victory on court no.1.

World no.1 Djokovic will take on 6 time champion Federer for a place in Sunday’s final, with the Swiss hoping to revenge his bitter Roland Garros 2012 defeat against the Serb.

This will be their first grasscourt encounter and many tennis pundits and tennis fans all around the world could be in for possibly once in a lifetime treat between these two great champions.
