The first set went against all odds. Chan kept all of her serves and managed to convert two out of her seven break points to win with 6-1. It was a high result for around fifty minutes long set, which implies Bartoli had her chances too.
The second set was rather equal, the games were short. The statistics, however, disclose Bartoli was in charge. She thus managed to convert her second break point of the set, taking a crucial lead. Chan had no reply to that and the match was level with the set ending 6-3.
For most of the final set Bartoli had an advantage of a break and was, again, better in most of the statistical categories. She ended the night on a high note and advanced to the finals by taking her opponent’s serve yet another time. End result: 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 .
“I was feeling a lot better in the second and the third set. She was also playing very well in the first set,” Bartoli explained after the match. It is the clash between her and second-seeded Dominika Cibulkova that will decide the 2012 Mercury Insurance Open champion.
