A great day of tennis is in store on Centre Court on day six of the Championships, and here are some predictions for the matches ahead.
Sixth seed Serena Williams gets things started against Chinese 25th seed Jie Zheng. Although Zheng will be ready for the battle, logic would suggest Williams is the safe bet to progress given her pedigree in the tournament and potential ability to overpower her diminutive opponent.
Prediction: Williams in straight sets.
Next up is a mouthwatering clash between 7th seeded David Ferrer and three time Wimbledon finalist and 30th seed Andy Roddick. Ferrer, coming to SW19 off the back of a successful French Open in which he reached the semi-finals, will fancy his chances of reaching the second week of Wimbledon. But Roddick is a tough competitor at home on the grass, and cannot be discounted despite his seeding.
Prediction: Roddick in 4 sets.
Last but not least on Centre, it is Andy Murray versus Marcos Baghdatis. While there seems to be some commentators with the opinion that Murray’s route to the final is in some way easy following Rafael Nadal’s surprise early exit, Baghdatis will offer Murray a stern test. A fierce competitor, the Cypriot knocked Murrary out en route to the 2006 Wimbledon semi-final. For his part, Murray will have to continue his good form and possibly even step up another gear against Baghdatis as he aims to break his duck in Grand Slams.
Prediction: Murray in 5 sets.
