5th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga showed no mercy as he demolished the Austalian wild card holder and former world no.1 Lleyton Hewitt in three sets 6-3  6-4  6-4 and booked his place in the second round of Wimbledon 2012.

Hewitt has been struggling with injuries recently and his ranking dropped to 202. The last big win for the Aussie came at this year’s Australian Open, when he defeated Canadian Milos Raonic in round three.

Tsonga, who reached last year’s semis here at the All England Club after eliminating Federer, will play Guillermo Garcia-Lopez next.

Argentine Juan Martin del Potro had to fight a lot harder against Robin Haase of Netherlands, winning 6-4  3-6  7-6 (3)  7-5 and setting up a second round clash against Japanese Go Soeda.

Also through to the next round are another Japanese 19th seed Kei Nishikori, who eliminated Russia’s Mikhail Kukushkin 7-5  6-3  6-4, French qualifier Kenny De Schepper after dismissing Matthias Bachinger of Germany 6-4  6-2  6-2 and British wild card holder James Ward, who beat Spain’s Pablo Andujar in a five set match, winning 4-6  6-0  3-6  6-3  6-3.
