Roger-Vasselin surprisingly defeated the 7th seeded American and four times Queen’s Club champion in three sets, winning 6-4 4-6 7-5.
Roddick had a big chance to close out the match, but couldn’t convert the matchpoint he had on the Frenchman’s serve in the 10th game of the deciding set. He then went on dropping his own serve and Roger-Vasselin held his nerve, serving out the match and setting up a last 16 encounter against the winner of the match between David Nalbandian and Ruben Bemelmans.
Also out of the tournament is the the 4th seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon, who got beaten by Simone Bolelli, the Italian prevailing 4-6 6-3 7-6 (2) in 2 hours and 32 minutes.
Next up for Bolelli will be Belgian Xavier Malisse, who eliminated 13th seeded Russian Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-3 4-6 6-0.
In other second round matches, world no.57 Yen Hsun Lu of Taiwan defeated the big serving Ivo Karlovic of Croatia in three tight sets, winning 6-7 (3) 7-6 (6) 7-6 (7) and South African Kevin Anderson booked his place in the last 16 after Sergiy Stakhovsky was forced to retire in the third set.
