Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis cruised through to the second round at Eastbourne after demolishing Spaniard Pablo Andujar 6-1  6-1.

In a match that lasted only 49 minutes, Baghdatis managed to convert five out of eight break points and and will play the winner of the match between Belgian Steve Darcis and Matthew Ebden of Australia.

American Ryan Harrison came back from a set down to defeat Canadian qualifier Vasek Pospisil, winning 3-6  7-6 (2)  7-6 (6).

Despite Harrison struggling with his serve in set two, the Canadian couldn’t capitalise from it and a final set tiebreak was to decide the outcome of the match. Pospisil had a massive opportunity to close it out, but failed to convert a matchpoint and he paid for it dearly.

In the other matches, Australian qualifier Marinko Matosevic beat British wild card holder James Ward 4-6  6-1  6-4, Italy’s Fabio Fognini overcame Albert Ramos of Spain 7-6 (2)  6-7 (3)  6-2, Jeremy Chardy eliminated Paul-Henri Mathieu in a battle of two Frenchmen, winning 7-5  6-7 (5)  7-6 (4) and another British wild card holder Jamie Baker surprisingly defeated American Donald Young in straight sets 6-1  6-4.
