German Philipp Kohlschreiber set up a BMW Open final encounter against the 3rd seed Marin Cilic of Croatia after defeating the second seed Feliciano Lopez 6-2  6-7 (4)  6-4 in a battle that lasted more than 2 hours.

The 4th seed German managed to hold his serve throughout the whole match. He saved all five breakpoints he was facing and broke his opponent three times. Despite Lopez saving two match points when a set and 5-6 down, Kohlschreiber regained his focus and after winning the deciding set, he booked his place in Sunday’s final.

For the 28 year old Kohlschreiber, this could be his first tour title after winning last year’s Gerry Weber Open in Halle.

In the previous semifinal, Cilic beat German wild card holder Tommy Haas 6-3  6-4 and will be aiming to win the first clay court title of his career.
