One break of serve was sufficient for the Argentine to wrap up the match and give himself a chance to repeat his last year’s Estoril victory, when he meets no.2 seed Richard Gasquet of France in today’s final.
Gasquet booked his place in the final after he came back from a set down to defeat Spaniard Albert Ramos 2-6 7-6 (1) 7-5.
“He was attacking a lot and I had to defend all the time. He really made me work,” said Gasquet after the match.
This will be the first final for the Frenchman since July 2010. On the other hand, if Del Potro prevails on Sunday, it will be his 11th ATP Tour trophy.
