Argentine Juan Martin del Potro had to fight hard for his place in the third round of this year’s French Open. The 2009 US Open winner came back from a set down to defeat Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France, winning 6-7 (5)  7-6 (3)  6-4  6-4.

No.9 seed Del Potro, who also needed four sets in the previous round against Albert Montanes, got off to a slower start, but managed to win the crucial second set tiebreak to level the match at 1 set all. He then stepped up a gear and taking control of the two remaining sets, the Argentine set up an encounter against Croatian Marin Cilic, who eliminated Spain’s Juan Carlos Ferrero.

7th seeded Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic made quick work of the Frenchman Michael Llodra, demolishing him in straight sets 6-2  6-3  6-3.

Next up for Berdych will be South African Kevin Anderson, who beat the Argentine qualifier Horacio Zeballos 6-3  3-6  6-3  6-0.
