Argentine Juan Martin del Potro joined Federer in the third round of the Rome Tennis Masters with a 6-4  6-2 win over Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny.

10th seeded Del Potro started the first set in the best possible way as he broke Youzhny in the opening game. Both players held their serves for the rest of the set with the Argentine capturing it in the end.

Two breaks of serve in the second set did the job for Delpo. After taking a 4-0 lead and bombarding Youzhny with some lethal forehands, the match was all done and dusted.

The Argentine seems to be back to his old form, having reached last week’s semis at the Madrid Open.

In round 3, he will face no.5 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, who overcame Serbian Viktor Troicki in straight sets 6-3  6-2.
