Top seed Juan Martin del Potro defended his title in Estoril after beating the no.2 seed Richard Gasquet 6-4  6-2 in today’s final.

The Argentine played some brilliant tennis and didn’t give Gasquet a single chance to break him as he stormed to clinch the 11th title of his career.

Del Potro took Gasquet’s serve in the opening game of the first set and with some stunning tennis cruised to a 1-0 set lead.

The Argentine broke his opponent twice in the second set and destroyed Gasquet’s dream of winning the title.

Del Potro looks well prepared for the big clay court tournaments to come and he will have to be considered as one of the top contenders at the French Open.

In yesterday’s semifinal, Del Potro eliminated Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (2)  6-4 and Gasquet overcame Albert Ramos 2-6  7-6 (1)  7-5.
