This will be the first ever ATP Tour final for Baker, who got handed a wild card for this year’s Roland Garros. He broke the former world no.3 Davydenko eight times on his way to victory.
Baker had to come through the qualifying round, but proved to be on form after eliminating the Frenchman Gael Monfils in the second round. He then went on to battle his way through to the semis, saving a match point against Mikhail Kukushkin in round 3.
The American will play Nicolas Almagro in the final, who overcame France’s Gilles Simon in just 68 minutes, beating him 6-1 6-3.
The Spaniard prevailed for the first time in the last three encounters against Simon, who couldn’t convert any of the four break point opportunities he had against Almagro.
