First seed Spaniard Rafael Nadal didn’t give his countryman Guillermo Garcia-Lopez too much of a chance as he destroyed him in the second round of the Barcelona Open, winning 6-1  6-2.

Defending champion Nadal is on form, having also won the Monte Carlo Masters last week. He will next play the winner of the match between Pablo Andujar of Spain and the Colombian qualifier Robert Farah.

Also through to round 3 is the 2nd seed Brit Andy Murray, who overcame Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky in straight sets 6-3  6-2.

Murray broke his opponent in the fourth game of the first set to take a 3-1 lead and that was sufficient for him to wrap up the first set.

As Stakhovsky couldn’t come up with any response in set 2, the match was quickly over in 78 minutes.

In the other second round matches, 5th seed Serbian Janko Tipsarevic defeated Victor Hanescu of Romania 7-5  6-4, Kei Nishikori of Japan beat beat the Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3  4-6  6-0 and the 9th seed Spaniard Fernando Verdasco eliminated Steve Darcis of Belgium 6-3  6-1.
