Third seed Andy Murray became the first tennis player to reach the third round of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters as he eliminated the Serbian Viktor Troicki 6-0  6-3.

The Brit took control of the match from  the beginning and didn´t allow his opponent a single game in set 1.

Murray kept Troicki under pressure throughout the second set and managed to break the Serbian to go 2-1 up. It was a completely different display from last year´s Roland Garros, where the Brit battled back from two sets down to beat Troicki. This time the world no.4 dictated most of the rallies and he took Troicki´s serve once more to claim the second set and the match.

In round 3, Murray will either play Jurgen Melzer of Austria or the Frenchman Julien Benneteau.

Results from some of the remaining first round matches – Italy´s Fabio Fognini defeated Michael Llodra of France 7-5  6-3, Frenchman Gilles Simon dismissed the wild card holder Benjamin Balleret 6-3  6-2, Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil overcame the South African Kevin Anderson 6-4  6-4 and Italy´s Filippo Volandri beat his countryman Alessandro Giannessi 7-5  6-3.
