Juan Monaco of Argentina won the fifth career title of his career claiming the US Clay Court Championship trophy in Houston.

Monaco beat world American world no.10 John Isner in three sets 6-2  3-6  6-3 and improved his this year’s clay court record to 11-2. The Argentine won this year’s tournament in Vina del Mar and with the Houston win, he will move up to no.13 in the rankings (his best ever).

Second seed Isner would have moved up to no.8 in the rankings with a victory, but he got broken twice in the first set and Monaco took control of the match.

Despite Isner fighting back and taking the second set 6-3, the Argentine regained his footing in the decider and once he broke the American, he held his serve to capture his second tour title of the year.

Monaco moved into the final by beating the American qualifier Michael Russell and Isner booked his final place as he dismissed the Spanish wild card holder Feliciano Lopez.
