Second seed Rafael Nadal of Spain beat the Argentine Leonardo Mayer in straight sets 6-1 6-3 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The match lasted only 1h 15 min and Nadal looked in great shape.
He didn’t allow Mayer a lot in set one, breaking him twice to go up 5-0 in just 19 minutes. When Mayer won his first game of the match, the crowd showed him some support. But Nadal wanted to get the match out of the way as quick as possible.
Mayer put on a bigger fight in the second set, but it was again the Spaniard, who was in control of the rallies and the Argentine helped him by missing two easy smashes. The Roland Garros champion broke Mayer in the third game and then again in the last game to seal the set and the match.
Nadal will now face his fellow countryman Marcel Granollers, who defeated Tommy Haas of Germany 6-3 2-6 6-3.
