World no.1 Novak Djokovic is on the best course to defend his title at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami after beating fellow Serbian Viktor Troicki 6-3  6-4.

Djokovic took control of the first set from the very beginning, breaking Troicki to go 2-0 up. He then had to face five break points himself throughout the set, but Troicki couldn’t convert any of them.

The match looked all over as the world no.1 broke his Davis Cup mate and friend early on in set 2, but Troicki responded with a quick break back to level the score at 2-2. However, Troicki’s joy was short lived as Djokovic took his serve once more and that was enough for him to sail to victory.

In round 4, Djokovic will play the Frenchman Richard Gasquet, who defeated Albert Ramos of Spain 6-2  5-7  6-3.

Also through to last 16 is the 5th seed Spaniard Ferrer, who outsted Julien Benneteau of France 7-6 (5)  6-4.

Ferrer will play either Del Potro or Cilic next.
