Juan Martin del Potro won his second round match at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells against the Australian qualifier Marinko Matosevic 7-5  6-2.

Only in the first set did the spectators see a bit more even match, but once del Potro broke the Australian in the 11th game, the set was all over.

Del Potro then managed to break his opponent twice in the second set and as he held his service games with ease, he moved into the next round, where he will play Fernando Verdasco of Spain, who defeated Ryan Sweeting of America 6-2  6-2.

Nikolay Davydenko also made his way into the next round as he dismissed Bjorn Phau of Germany 7-5  6-2. Phau was a substitute for Gael Monfils, who is still struggling with his knee injury.

Davydenko’s next opponent will be decided in a match between Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil and Jurgen Melzer of Austria.
