Defending champion Gael Monfils had to save a matchpoint to secure his place in the Open Sud Final in Montpellier. He beat his fellow countryman Gilles Simon 4-6  7-6 (4) 6-4.

Monfils saved eight breakpoints in the second set and at 5-6 he had to save one match point too. After winning the tiebreak he seemed to be on the right course to victory. He took a quick 3-0 lead in the third set, and although Simon managed to come back to level the match at 4-4, he dropped his serve and this time Monfils didn’t hesitate as he served it out.

In the second semifinal, Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic outpowered Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 6-3  6-4 to set up a final encounter against Monfils.
