Federer started very strongly and he took a quick 5-0 lead in the first set. The Argentine only managed to win his first game after 28 minutes, but that didn´t trouble the Swiss legend as he took the first set 6-1.
In the second set, del Potro had many more opportunities to break Federer, but couldn´t convert any of them. One break for the 16 time Grand Slam champion was enough to seal the set and the match.
Federer´s now got a 9-2 head to head record against del Potro.
“This title marks a great start to the season,” said Federer after the match.
