Zheng Jie wins Auckland final

China’s Zheng Jie won the fourth tour title of her career after her victory against Flavia Pennetta at the ASB Classic in Auckland.

Zheng was 2-6, 6-3, 2-0 up when Pennetta had to retire due to an injury.

Zheng dismissed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semifinals, winning 2-6 6-3 6-3. It was her first win over Kuznetsova and now the head to head stands at 1-6 in the Russian’s favour.

The Chinese reached two semifinals at Grand Slam tournaments, but then had to take a break due to a wrist injury. Now after a little struggle she seems to be back.

Italian Pennetta made her way to the final as she overcame German’s Angelique Kerber.
