Venus Williams withdraws from Australian Open

Venus Williams, the seven time singles Grand Slam champion, withdrew from this year´s Australian Open as she is still struggling to get back on top form after her autoimmune disease Sjogren’s syndrome.

She said that she is planning to return to the WTA Tour in February and that she is making steady progress.

Her sister Serena Williams also suffered an injury at last week´s Brisbane International, but is expected to recover and play at the first Grand Slam of the year.
