Monfils stuns Nadal in Doha, plays Tsonga in final

Gael Monfils upset Rafael Nadal in the Qatar Open semifinal and set up an all french final against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who moved into the final after Switzerland’s Federer retired due to a back injury.

Monfils beat Nadal surprisingly easily in straight sets 6-3  6-4. The frenchman had only beaten Nadal once before in nine meetings.

The other big news of the day was the withdrawal of three times champion Federer due to a back injury that has been troubling him since his previous round match against Andreas Seppi.
