Sharapova and Kvitova to meet in the Australian Open SF

The 2008 Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova and the reigning Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will meet in the 2012 Australian Open semifinal.

Sharapova defeated fellow Russian  Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-3. Makarova was the one who knocked out the five-times champion Serena Williams in the round before.

The Czech Kvitova moved to her first semifinal in Melbourne Park with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sara Errani of Italy.

In the other semifinal, defending champion Kim Clisters will play Victoria Azarenka.
