Pennetta to meet Zheng in Auckland final

Flavia Pennetta got her revenge for last year’s quarterfinal loss to Angelique Kerber at the US Open. This time she managed to beat the German 6-1 6-2 in the semifinal of the ASB Classic in Auckland.

Pennetta will play China’s Zheng Jie in Saturday’s final. Zheng surprisingly beat Svetlana Kuznetsova in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Italian will try to capture her ninth singles tour title. She was a runner-up Auckland’s in 2010. For Zheng, this could be the fourth title of her career.
