Julien Benneteau of France upset Marcos Baghdatis in the semifinal of the Sydney International, beating him in straight sets 6-4 6-4.

Baghdatis was confident going into the match as he defeated Argentine Del Potro in the previous round. But the Cypriot’s serve let him down as he got broken four times throughout the match.

Benneteau will play Jarkko Nieminen in the final. The Finn dismissed Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 7-6 (14-12) 6-3.

Nieminen will have a chance to win his second tour title, having won in Auckland in 2006.
