Defending champion David Ferrer captured his third title at the Heineken Open  in Auckland as he defeated Olivier Rochus in the final 6-3 6-4.

Rain interupted the match a couple of times, but Ferrer managed to keep his focus and he proved to be just a bit too good for the Belgian.

This was Ferrer’s 12th tour title and will give him a lot of confidence going into next week’s Australian Open.

“This is the most special as every year is more difficult because I am older,” said the 29 year old Ferrer after the match.
